Crafted by winemaker Kosie Van Der Merwe, this Cabernet Franc from Elgin showcases the region's cool nights and moderate days, perfect for slow ripening. The grapes were harvested in two batches, ensuring optimal ripeness. The wine was made using 40% whole bunch clusters and 60% destemmed grapes, with natural fermentation lasting three weeks. After fermentation, the wine was basket-pressed and aged in 400L and 300L barrels. Fun Fact: Cabernet Franc is known for its versatility and distinctive green pepper notes. In the cooler climate of Elgin, this grape develops a unique balance of ripe fruit flavors and fresh herbal characteristics, making it a favorite among wine enthusiasts for its complexity and food-friendly profile.

A unique and intriguing natural red wine defying expectations. Made with a blend of red grapes and white grapes, it offers a lighter body compared to traditional reds. Expect a bouquet of red fruits like cherries and raspberries with a surprising twist of floral notes like honeysuckle or violets from the white grapes. The wine's acidity is bright and refreshing, balanced by minimal tannins. The finish is crisp and clean, leaving a hint of fruitiness that lingers pleasantly.

For Carolina Alvarado and Arturo Herrera, wine serves as a bridge between nature and people. In 2003, they founded Herrera-Alvarado, which is now recognized as a pioneer of the burgeoning natural wine movement in Chile. Historically, local peasant farmers, known as Huasos, produced wine for personal use without additives. Carolina and Arturo embraced this traditional method, learning through word of mouth from various local winemakers in the valley. A distinctive feature of their winemaking is the use of cow leather for fermentation. They constructed their cellar themselves using adobe made from clay from their vineyards. Their process is entirely manual, with no electricity involved.
