Welcome to the July 12 Bottle Club from MYSA Natural Wine!
A note from our founder:
Happy July!! We are in the thick of summer and a lot of crazy weather all over the place, so thanks for sticking with us and utilizing all the great options we have to get you wine during these months! We're going for chillable and unique this month. A few highlights: gorgeous Nouveau French red, tasty Garnacha (that I may or may not have been using to make the BEST tinto de verano you've ever had), cans from the infamous Las Jaras (because we're all headed to places that are easier with cans rn!). On the non-red side we have a killer (see what I did there) piquette, a Riesling that is begging for some spicy food, and a liter of gold from one of the top winemakers in Spain, and so much more! ENJOY!

About Zorzal
Zorzal is a young winery that began in 2007 by the Michelini brothers, Gerardo, Matias, and Juan Pablo (the winemaker) along with a group of Canadian investors, with its first vintage being 2008. The winery and vineyards are located in the subregion of the Uco Valley called Gualtallary, outside the town of Tupungato, at approximately 4,500 feet above sea level, which makes it the highest winery in Mendoza. The estate consists of 70 hectares on a unique blend of sand, stones, and limestone and is planted to multiple varietals including Malbec, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, as well as a few others. The grapes are all harvested by hand, and the vision is to have minimal intervention (or a "light hand") in the winery so as to let the fruit and terroir shine. The winery practices organic methods in the vineyards and uses only indigenous yeast in the winemaking process. Zorzal tends to pick its grapes a little earlier (greener) than most in Mendoza to retain freshness and acidity in their wines instead of the overblown ripeness that is too often seen. They are already considered to be a rising star in Argentina with their focused wines and enticing expression of multiple varietals above and beyond their stunning Malbecs.

About Marcel Richaud
If you've heard of Cairanne, one of the best terroirs in the vast Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages appellation it's probably because of Marcel Richaud. Richaud comes from a vine growing family who'd historically and prosperously sold grapes to the local cave cooperative. So it came as a shock when Marcel, only 17 at the time, told his father he wanted to become a "vigneron indépendant". To his senior, this was incomprehensible and felt very risky: nothing to gain, more work and less pay. Undeterred, Marcel started with 14 hectares of his aunt's vines, producing his first vintage at 19 years old in a dilapidated cellar with no roof. He quickly made a name for himself in the nascent Parisian natural wine scene of the early 1990's and eventually began incorporating his father's cooperative vines into his eponymous production. Today, Marcel is retired and the estate is run by his children Thomas, Claire and Edith. The estate has grown to a sizeable 80 hectares over the years, a combination of Marcel progressively recouping family vineyards from the cooperative and purchasing land; about 40 hectares come from the family and the other 40 have been purchased or planted since the 1980's. - Louis Dressner

About Finca Parera
One of the most exciting regions in Spain when it comes to natural wine has got to be the Penedès. I know that may sound a bit strange considering the amount of plonky Cava being made, but this is actually part of the reason driving a group of young winemakers to do things differently. I call it the process of diseducation and at the forefront of this movement is Ruben Parera. Keep reading and you’ll know what I mean… Finca Parera is located in the upper Penedes region, characterized by its calcareous clay soils. Rubén converted his family’s 10h estate from organic to biodynamic farming, continuing the natural process into the cellar while applying the same practice to their cherries, almonds, olives, and vegetables, obtaining the rather grueling Demeter certification on their first visit. He was born into a family of farmers but it wasn’t until he finished his viticultural and oenological studies that they started making wines of their own. We first met him at a tasting in 2013 and his wines were perfect…almost too perfect. Since then, I feel like he’s stopped relying so much on the books and turned to his land for answers. His 2015’s are simply on a different level than what we first tasted in 2013. In a short period of time he’s evolved from making textbook wines to making wines of terruño, seeking drinkability without compromising depth and complexity. His entry level white, red, and rosé are super fun to drink while his 2014 acacia aged Xarello might be one of the most interesting expressions of the grape we’ve ever tasted. It’s the first wine he makes without adding SO2. I’d bet the same professors who told him it couldn’t be done would even take their hats off to this wine. Long live the diseducation of Ruben Parera! - Selections de la Vina

About Nestarec
Milan Nestarec has quickly become the star winemaker of the Czech republic during the time we’ve been working with him. His wines display so much life, vitality, and originality, that they have become very sought after all over the world in a very short time. We are honored to have been working with his wines since 2014. The wines we are selling now represent the full evolution of his original vision: a full range of wines, from quaffable yet energetic and inexpensive wines like the forks and knives and liter bottlings of Nach and Bel, to the amazingly expressive skin fermented wines, made entirely without additions of sulfur. - From Jenny & Francois.

About Viña Enebro
Viña Enebro as we know it today began producing wine organically in 2004, with the focus being to make different and unique wines in a region that had turned more industrial in the late 1990s. As some time went on being organic simply wasn't enough and the transition to natural-only started in 2008. The focus was first with young and aged red wines, then rosé, white, sparkling, reservas, and endless elaborations, but the most important thing was to respect the land and the grape without sulfur, without clarifiers, without acidifiers, without selected yeasts, etc. The goal was clear, just grapes and nothing more, which is true now to this day. - Selections de la Viña
