Club Pick 3

Crafted by winemaker Kosie Van Der Merwe, this Cabernet Franc from Elgin showcases the region's cool nights and moderate days, perfect for slow ripening. The grapes were harvested in two batches, ensuring optimal ripeness. The wine was made using 40% whole bunch clusters and 60% destemmed grapes, with natural fermentation lasting three weeks. After fermentation, the wine was basket-pressed and aged in 400L and 300L barrels. Fun Fact: Cabernet Franc is known for its versatility and distinctive green pepper notes. In the cooler climate of Elgin, this grape develops a unique balance of ripe fruit flavors and fresh herbal characteristics, making it a favorite among wine enthusiasts for its complexity and food-friendly profile.

Tremayne Smith's journey into winemaking began in East London, where he initially pursued a career as a chef. Influenced by his father's passion for wine, he transitioned into the world of winemaking. After completing his studies, he honed his skills as the assistant winemaker and vineyard manager at Sijnn, followed by a stint at Mullineux, before assuming the role of winemaker at Fable. In 2014, Tremayne embarked on his own venture, The Blacksmith, driven by his experiences working with varietals like Cinsault, Carignan, and Grenache, both locally and abroad. The ethos of The Blacksmith centers on crafting natural wines that captivate the senses and resonate with the soul. Tremayne possesses a profound understanding of the nuances involved in producing natural wines.

Club Pick 5

Light-bodied and dry palate features a refreshing acidity, with citrusy lime and grapefruit notes enhancing the initial fruitiness. Silvaner, aged in steel tanks, imparts structure, while Müller-Thurgau, aged in old oak barrels, adds creaminess. The finish is clean and crisp, leaving lingering citrus and mineral nuances. Named after the vineyard's grey long-eared bats aiding natural insect control, this natural wine expresses terroir with minimal intervention.  Versatile and easy-drinking, it pairs seamlessly with seafood, salads, poultry, or vegetarian dishes.

2Naturkinder, spearheaded by Melanie Drese and Michael Völker, represents a dynamic shift in winemaking practices at their family winery established in 1843 along the banks of the river Main in northern Bavaria. Since taking the reins in 2012, they've revolutionized their approach, converting all 7 hectares of vineyards to organic farming methods. Their commitment extends beyond cultivation, as they craft wines without additives and eschew fining and filtering, exemplified even in their Vater & Sohn blend, which contains no added sulfites. Evolving from a parametric understanding to a holistic ethos, they view soil not merely as a substrate but as a living entity intricately connected to the ecosystem.
