Tembela Wines was founded by Banele Vakele, one of South Africa’s most inspiring new-generation winemakers. His story began in Khayelitsha, a township outside Cape Town, where a childhood daydream gazing out at vineyards during school sparked his passion for wine.
After earning a scholarship to a top school in Constantia, Banele’s curiosity eventually led him to study winemaking and work alongside some of South Africa’s finest, including Duncan Savage at Savage Wines in Salt River, where he continues to craft his wines.
Located within South Africa’s Western Cape, the Coastal Region – Cape Town area benefits from cool ocean breezes and diverse soils, producing elegant, expressive wines. Known for its balanced reds and crisp whites, key varieties include Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
