About the Winemaker

Envinate

Envínate, which translates to "wine yourself," is the brainchild of four friends: winemakers Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos, and José Martínez. Their journey began in 2005 while studying enology at the University of Miguel Hernandez in Alicante. Following graduation, they established a winemaking consultancy that later blossomed into Envínate—a project dedicated to exploring distinctive parcels, primarily in the Atlantic-influenced regions of Ribeira Sacra and the Canary Islands. Their unified goal is to craft wines of profound purity and authenticity, showcasing the terroir of each parcel with clarity and precision.

The Region

Canary Islands, Spain

In the remote and rugged landscapes of the Canary Islands, natural winemaking is both an art and a way of life. These volcanic islands off the coast of northwestern Africa boast a viticultural heritage as ancient as it is unique. Here, amid the volcanic soils and Atlantic breezes, winemakers practice organic and biodynamic farming methods with a deep respect for the land. Indigenous grape varieties such as Listán Negro, Listán Blanco, and Malvasía thrive in this harsh yet fertile terrain, producing grapes of exceptional quality and character. In the cellar, minimal intervention is the guiding principle, as winemakers allow spontaneous fermentations and aging in neutral vessels to reveal the true essence of the grapes and their terroir. The resulting natural wines from the Canary Islands are a testament to the islanders' ingenuity and resilience, offering a taste of the volcanic soils and oceanic influences that shape these captivating wines.
