A Word From Our Founder

Hi friends,

February carries a different kind of energy. The days are still short, but there is a gentle shift in the air and a sense that light is slowly returning. It is a month that invites connection, whether that means gathering around the table, lingering a little longer over dinner, or simply finding small moments of warmth in the middle of busy days.

This month’s red selection leans into that feeling of quiet brightness. These are wines with lift and movement, bottles that feel alive in the glass and bring a sense of ease to any evening. They offer depth without heaviness and character without intensity, making them just as at home alongside a cozy meal as they are shared with friends over long, meandering conversations.

February can sometimes feel like a stretch between seasons, and these wines are here to carry us through with energy and charm. They are not meant to be saved for a special moment. They are meant for Tuesday nights, spontaneous dinners, and those in between times when you want something that feels both comforting and a little bit exciting.

As always, we are grateful to share these bottles with you. Thank you for supporting thoughtful, independent growers and for continuing to make space for wines that are expressive, honest, and full of life.

Here’s to a February filled with warmth, connection, and simple pleasures.

Cheers,
Holly

After a lifetime of experiences, Patrick Bouju settled in the Auvergne, releasing his first commercial vintage in 2002 and leaving his engineering job in 2008 to pursue winemaking full time.

Patrick's journey with wine began while he was a chemistry student in Clermont-Ferrand, where he discovered his aversion to classical wine due to his body's intolerance to sulfur. Inspired by low-intervention winemakers he met while in the military in Chalon-sur-Saône in 1994 and 1995, Patrick went on to study viticulture in Beaune.

After completing his studies, Patrick moved to the village of Glaine-Montaigut in the Auvergne, where he gradually started cultivating a small number of vines.

Pedro Rodríguez, the driving force behind Adegas Guímaro, embodies a deep-rooted passion for winemaking in the rugged Ribeira Sacra region. Continuing a family legacy, they cultivate their steep, terraced vineyards using age-old methods passed down from previous generations. Embracing their rebellious spirit, reflected in the name "Guímaro," meaning rebel in Gallego, they champion nearly-forgotten local grapes like Caiño and Brancellao. Beyond preserving history, their focus is on adapting to climate change, crafting wines that are not only delicious but also echo the distinct character of Ribeira Sacra. In the cellar, they adhere to traditional techniques, employing wild yeasts, foot treading, and minimal intervention.

Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Gerosa, an Italian couple hailing from Piedmont, have embarked on a remarkable winemaking journey in Massís de Bonastre, nestled in the Baix Penedés region. Their mission? To revive neglected old vines and lesser-known grape varietals, transforming them into treasures of extreme quality and concentration. Embracing organic farming practices, they cultivate their plots with care, yielding grapes of exceptional character. In the cellar, they practice the art of minimal intervention winemaking, allowing native yeasts to guide fermentation and refraining from adding any additives, fining, or filtration, eschewing even the addition of SO2.

"Located in the Planina-Vipava valley, between Mediterranean and Alpine climates, Zmago Petrič carries on the traditions of his family – a family with generations of history in wine making. A proud winery covering 12 hectares, they take the local environment seriously: certified organic and biodynamic through Demeter, they treat the land like their own kid and grow predominantly indigenous varietals: zelen, pinela, and rebula along with some international varietals. By keeping crops small they they ensure the best expression of the varietals and the earth they come from. - Savio Soares Selections"
