A Word From Our Founder

Hi friends,

For August, we're bringing you a collection of reds that are full of character and made for easy summer drinking. This month's lineup moves between Italy and France, pairing familiar grapes and styles with bottles that offer something a little more unexpected.

From the classic charm of Chianti to the ripe, generous character of Syrah and Grenache, each bottle brings its own personality to the table. We especially love the variety here—some are bright and lively, others a little deeper and more expressive, giving you plenty to explore throughout the month.

Whether you're grilling with friends, sitting down to a relaxed dinner, or opening a bottle after a long day, these are reds that are meant to be enjoyed without too much fuss.

Thank you for continuing to explore with us and for supporting the growers behind these bottles.

Cheers,

Holly

Poggiosecco, located in the Montalbano Hills of Chianti, Tuscany, is a certified organic (since 2004) and biodynamic (since 2009) winery run by Marco Filipello and Giuseppe Pluchino. The 12-hectare estate primarily cultivates Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet, along with smaller amounts of Malvasia, Vermentino, and Canaiolo. Their winemaking is based on biodynamic principles, using spontaneous fermentation, aging in concrete vats or oak barrels, and minimal intervention with no fining or filtration. Founded in 1967, the estate focuses on producing authentic Chianti wines that reflect their chalk and sandstone soils. The wines are bright, with rich fruit flavors, fine tannins, and a natural balance, making them ideal for pairing with a variety of Tuscan and Mediterranean dishes.

Domaine Josette et Michel is a natural wine producer founded in 2022 by Jeanne and Philippe “Fifi” Essome. Located in Mont-Roc, a village in the Tarn region of southern France, the domaine sits at an elevation of 600 meters in the Montagne Noire, near the Monts de Lacaune and the Haut Languedoc Natural Park. This high-altitude terroir contributes to the freshness and elegance of their wines.

Jeanne, with roots in Burgundy, has a deep connection to winemaking, while Fifi gained experience in the U.S. as a pioneer in the natural wine movement, co-founding "The Ten Bells" in New York. Initially working with purchased organic grapes, they began planting their own vineyard in 2023, with future estate wines expected in the coming years. Alice Bouvot proudly owns 5 hectares of vineyards in the Arbois region of the Jura. Beginning her domaine in 2005 with just 2 hectares, Alice gradually acquired small plots over the years, expanding her production. Some of our most cherished winery visits are with Alice and her delightful sons. Beyond her warmth, the vineyards themselves exude vibrancy. L’Octavin is now Demeter biodynamic certified, and Alice wholeheartedly conveys this ethos. Embracing a holistic approach, wild grasses, weeds, insects, and animals coexist harmoniously within their vines, creating a rich ecosystem that imparts deeper meaning to each glass of her wine.
