Producer Profile

Sous Le Vegetal

Sous le Végétal is a collaborative wine project between Jason Ligas of Domaine Ligas and Patrick Bouju of Domaine la Bohéme. This project finds them on the beautiful island of Samos in Greece, located one mile off the coast of Turkey. Sous le Végétal actively avoids the industrial farming practices that dominate winemaking in Greece and have opted to do extensive work in the vineyards to restore a healthy permaculture for their vines and the rich assortment of volcanic soils. Their farming practices are biodynamic and organic, down to the utilization of herbs and natural balms to heal and protect the vines. -Zev Rovine Selections

Where The Wines Come From

Samos

Samos, an island nestled in the Aegean Sea, is renowned for its production of natural wines that reflect the region's rich history and unique terroir. With its mountainous terrain and volcanic soils, Samos provides an ideal environment for sustainable viticulture. Natural winemakers on the island prioritize organic and traditional farming methods, cultivating indigenous grape varieties such as Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains with minimal intervention. By eschewing chemical additives and focusing on natural fermentation, they produce wines that truly capture the essence of Samos. Samos's natural wines are known for their aromatic intensity, bright acidity, and luscious fruit flavors, with Muscat Blanc offering notes of citrus, apricot, and floral undertones. As the demand for authentic and terroir-driven wines continues to grow, Samos remains a hidden gem in the natural wine world, offering a taste of the island's cultural heritage and commitment to quality winemaking with every bottle.
