A Word From Our Founder

Hi friends,

January is a month for recalibration. A moment to clear the slate, slow the pace, and lean into things that feel grounding yet alive. After the indulgence of the holidays, it is a welcome return to balance, with room for curiosity and a little brightness in the glass.

This month’s orange selection captures that energy beautifully. These are wines with texture, lift, and quiet confidence. Thoughtful and expressive, they bring layers without feeling heavy and invite you to slow down and pay attention. Each bottle rewards a patient pour, opening up over time and pairing just as easily with simple, nourishing meals as with longer, more reflective evenings.

Orange wines feel especially right for January. They sit comfortably between seasons and moods, offering freshness with depth and structure with ease. These are bottles meant to be explored, shared, and enjoyed without rush, whether you are easing back into routine or savoring a calm night at home.

As we begin a new year, we are grateful to be starting it with you. Thank you for your continued support of independent growers and for trusting us to curate wines that feel intentional, expressive, and true to the moment.

Here’s to a thoughtful, grounded January and the year ahead.

Cheers,
Holly

Thinus's venture, Fram, is more than just a winemaking endeavor; it's a manifestation of his bold and adventurous spirit. With a commitment to exploring uncharted territories and pushing boundaries, he crafts wines that reflect his audacity and intuition. Growing grapes in the rugged terrain northwest of Clanwilliam, an area he affectionately dubs "Here be Dragons," Thinus defies convention to produce truly exceptional wines. As the founder, winemaker, and sole force behind Fram, he invites others to join him on this exhilarating journey, where risk transforms into reward with every bottle uncorked.

De Mena, meaning "By Nature" in Catalan, is a passion project of Sébastien Agelet, located in the small, time-forgotten village of Paziols, nestled in the Pyrenees Mountains. Once part of the Principality of Catalonia, Paziols still holds a medieval charm. Sébastien, a visionary vigneron, transitioned his family’s old vines to organic farming, pulling them away from the co-op to create wines that reflect nature’s purity and authenticity. De Mena’s wines are naturally crafted with minimal intervention, showcasing the terroir and embracing a philosophy rooted in passion. Sébastien’s wines are known for being thought-provoking, purposeful, and utterly delicious, with an emphasis on organic, traditional winemaking methods.

Frank’s wines are like none we have ever tasted, and there is no doubt they have raised a stir throughout the industry. These wines express the absolutely unique land of Mt. Etna in a way that no other wine has. You really have to taste the wines and watch the color and flavor evolve in your glass to understand them.

Wonderwerk stands out also for their colorful, eye-catching labels: “We wouldn’t be anywhere without our friends Anton Goddard and Lana Shahmoradian who design all of our branding and label artwork, as well as the slew of other friends who lend their creative energy to making some of our more absurd and visual ideas come true,” Issamu acknowledges. “It’s true that you “drink with your eyes first” and so we’ve always wanted to create wines that jump out at you, grab your attention and make you go “what is this all about…?” Well, New York, thanks to this hot addition in the Jenny & Francois book, you can now wonder about Wonderwerk’s work as well! - Jenny and Francois
