A Word From Our Founder

Hi friends,

February invites us to slow down and savor the middle of the season. The days are still cool and quiet, but there is a subtle sense of change in the air. It is a time for cozy kitchens, shared plates, and evenings that unfold at an unhurried pace. This is the kind of month that calls for wines with texture, energy, and a little bit of intrigue.

Our orange selections this month bring exactly that. These are skin contact wines that feel vibrant and alive, offering layers of flavor and gentle structure without ever feeling heavy. They balance freshness with depth, making each sip both refreshing and thought provoking. These are bottles that invite you to pay attention, then reward you for doing so.

Orange wines shine at the table, and February is the perfect time to explore how beautifully they pair with real food. Think roasted vegetables, hearty grains, savory pastries, and dishes with warm spices. These wines are flexible and expressive, just as comfortable with a simple weeknight meal as they are at a long dinner with friends.

Like all the wines we share, these come from independent growers who work thoughtfully and with intention. Thank you for continuing to support wines that are handcrafted, character driven, and full of life.

Here’s to a February filled with curiosity, comfort, and delicious discoveries.

Cheers,
Holly

Club Pick 1

A short skin contact white from high altitude, clay limestone vineyards in Serra de Montejunto near the Atlantic. Mostly Vital with a small portion of Rabo de Ovelha, the grapes are hand harvested and macerated briefly before fermenting and aging in concrete. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur, the wine is textured but bright, combining gentle grip with coastal freshness and a mineral edge.

COZs is the partnership of Portuguese natives Tiago Teles and António Marques da Cruz, founded in 2015 with a shared goal of reviving historic vineyards and native grapes in the Serra de Montejunto, just 15 km from the Atlantic Ocean in the Lisbon wine region.

Their story began with the purchase of a 60 year old Baga vineyard, followed by the limestone rich Vinha da Pena. In a region long shaped by conventional farming, COZs chose a different path, prioritizing organic agriculture and rethinking pruning and soil health. Today they work with six historic, high altitude sites planted mainly to Vital, with vines between 30 and 50 years old rooted in clay limestone soils.

Region: Dalmatia, Croatia

The Skaramuča family manages the largest vineyard in the prestigious Dingač appellation on the Pelješac Peninsula. This challenging region, known for producing Croatia's finest Plavac Mali, is home to only a few growers who produce limited quantities of wine. The rugged terrain demands extensive manual labor, with the sun and wind naturally drying the grapes on the vine, ensuring natural yield control. The robust and concentrated Plavac Mali grape flourishes here, creating exceptional wines with great aging potential. - Vinum

Club Pick 3

An old vine Macabeu from rocky clay and limestone soils at elevation in Alt Penedès. The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed, and macerated on skins for several days before free run juice finishes fermentation in stainless steel and rests in neutral French oak. Farmed organically with biodynamic treatments and made without additives, fining, or filtration, the wine is savory and textured, with gentle structure and lifted freshness.

Region: Catalonia, Spain

Núria Renom is a Barcelona based winemaker whose path into wine was shaped as much by hospitality as by the vineyard. Originally from Argentina, she moved to Spain at a young age and gravitated early toward wine, studying in Italy, training as a sommelier, and working harvests across Europe.

In 2013, Núria became head sommelier at Bar Brutal, one of the defining spaces of Spain’s natural wine movement. A year later, she began making her own wines using fruit from friends within the Catalan natural wine community, working with organically and regeneratively farmed vineyards from growers such as Ton Rimbau and Toni Carbó of La Salada.

Club Pick 4

A skin contact Pinot Grigio from steep marl slopes in the Vipava Valley, farmed organically without irrigation. The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed, and fermented spontaneously in stainless steel and acacia, with about a week of maceration on skins. Aging in both steel and acacia adds texture while keeping the wine lifted and savory. Bottled unfiltered, it shows a balance of gentle tannin, bright fruit, and earthy depth.

Region: Vipava Valley, Slovenia

High above the Vipava Valley, Mansus is a small family project from the Makovec family, farming steep hillside vineyards in the village of Brje. Up here, warm Mediterranean air meets cooler continental winds from the Karst Plateau, creating a natural balance in the vines.

The vineyards are farmed organically, and the cellar work stays hands off. All wines ferment with native yeasts only, with no additives or shortcuts. Mansus is also among the few producers working with Klarnica, a rare indigenous grape native to Vipava, helping preserve the region’s wine heritage.

The wines are quietly expressive and textural, with freshness, gentle grip, and a clear sense of place. They are not flashy, just honest, naturally made wines that feel rooted in where they come from.
