Gindl is certified biodyamic. To preserve the individuality obtained in the Gindl vineyards, the grapes are rarely racked, pressed very gently, and fermented spontaneously without any use of temperature control or selected yeast. Fun fact: The barrels in his cellar are made from acacia and oak from his own forests.

About the Winemaker

Gindl

Upon completing agricultural school in 2002, Michael Gindl, born in 1983, harbored a steadfast determination to oversee the farm that has been in his family since 1807. Traditionally, the farm practiced mixed agriculture encompassing crops, livestock, forestry, and viticulture. Following his grandfather's untimely passing, Michael's mother assumed farm management duties while his father pursued a career as a food inspector. During his schooling, Michael took on the responsibility of vinification.

Concurrently, Michael embarked on a journey toward embracing biodynamic methods, leading to the farm's eventual certification as biodynamic. Since 2012, Highland cattle have been bred on the property, while horses are employed in the vineyards and wheat fields.

The Region

Weinviertel, Austria

Weinviertel, nestled in the northeastern part of Austria, produces natural wines that embody the region's rich winemaking tradition and unique terroir. Stretching across rolling hills and fertile plains, Weinviertel benefits from a continental climate with hot summers and cool nights, creating optimal conditions for grape cultivation. Here, winemakers embrace sustainable farming practices and minimal intervention in the cellar, allowing the true expression of the fruit and the land to shine through. Indigenous grape varieties such as Grüner Veltliner, Zweigelt, and Riesling thrive in this diverse landscape, yielding wines of exceptional purity and complexity. From crisp and aromatic whites to elegant and expressive reds, Weinviertel's natural wines capture the essence of the region's vibrant terroir and cultural heritage, inviting drinkers to experience the true essence of Austrian winemaking with each sip.
