Erste & Neue, based in Alto Adige, unites three top co-ops, including the region's first co-op from 1900 and the newest formed after Alto Adige joined Italy, under the name "First & New." In 1986, these merged with Cantina Kaltern, bringing together 500 small growers across 280 hectares of sustainably farmed alpine terroir. Their south-facing, terraced vineyards span elevations up to 860 meters, producing ten grape varieties, including Pinot Grigio, GewĂźrztraminer, Lagrein, and Schiava. Ample sunlight and cool alpine temperatures create fresh, balanced, and aromatically expressive wines. With a focus on tradition and innovation, Cellar Master Gerhard Sanin combines minimal interventionist practices with modern techniques, highlighting Alto Adige's majestic wine culture.
