Kompot 2021 is a light, easy-drinking red wine made from a blend of Zweigeltrebe, Dornfelder, and Blauer Portugieser grapes. The grapes are grown in vineyards with loess subsoil, topped with varying levels of sand and humus, and planted in the 1990s with a south/southwest exposure. Half of the grapes are pressed immediately as whole bunches (blanc de noir style), while the other half undergoes fermentation in open tanks with maceration on the skins for 3-4 weeks. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in older French oak barrels. The final blend is unfined, unfiltered, and made without added sulfur, resulting in a fresh, vibrant red that can be enjoyed cool or at room temperature.
Fun Fact: The name "Kompot" is inspired by a traditional Eastern European fruit compote, reflecting the wine's light, fruity character and its easy, refreshing nature—perfect for casual sipping on any occasion.

About Vina Herzanovi

The Herzánovi winery is a testament to the power of family, passion, and sustainable winemaking. Founded in 1997 by Jakub and Zuzana’s father, the winery has evolved into a thriving family business. Jakub and Sandra Herzán, both trained winemakers, met while pursuing their studies at a nearby winemaking college. Their shared passion for winemaking and their commitment to sustainable practices have shaped the unique character of their winery. One of the distinguishing features of Herzánovi wines is the use of Georgian qvevri, traditional earthenware vessels, for a portion of their winemaking process. This technique, influenced by Jakub's interest in maceration, imparts a distinctive flavor profile to the wines.
