Nerello Mascalese 2019

$26.95 Sale Save

Produced on the high-altitude slopes of Mount Etna, Nerello Mascalese 2019 by Elisa Trovato reflects the deep relationship between the volcanic terroir and winemaking traditions. Hand-harvested from 3 hectares of volcanic soils, the grapes undergo 15-day maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for 12 months in used Slavonian oak barrels, followed by 12 months in the bottle, resulting in a complex, elegant red with the distinct character of its unique environment.

Aromas of red berries, earthy minerals, and subtle floral notes, with a smooth, balanced finish and hints of spice.

The Producer

About Il Vulcano di Elisa

Meet Elisa Trovato, a winemaker with a deep love for the land and an unshakable passion for honoring the generations of women who worked the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna before her. Elisa’s approach to winemaking is refreshingly simple and grounded—she lets the grapes do the talking. By embracing natural, organic methods and allowing only the wild yeast from the vineyard to guide fermentation, Elisa creates wines that are alive with the true character of Etna. Her process is hands-off, but her dedication is hands-on; every bottle is a celebration of nature and heritage. For Elisa, making wine isn’t just about flavor; it’s a tribute to a place, a legacy, and a way of life that she’s devoted to sharing with every sip.

About the Region

Sicily, Italy

Sicily is the ultimate wine playground, an island paradise where fiery Mount Etna meets cool ocean breezes. Think sunshine-soaked grapes ripening in volcanic soil, bold reds like Nero d'Avola (think juicy black cherry) and fragrant whites like Grillo (hello, citrus!). Beyond the classics, there's a treasure trove of unique native grapes. It's a place where history swirls in your glass, from ancient Greek techniques to delicious sun-dried Marsala. A beach bum's haven, and a wine lover's playground, all rolled into one!
