The charming and approachable son of Wiltrude and Joshuari, Atanasius is made from 35-year-old Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch vines grown on gravel and limestone soils. Hand-harvested and spontaneously fermented, the wine spends three weeks on skins and ages for 12 months in used oak barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with zero sulfur, Atanasius is easygoing yet full of depth—an attractive and popular young red with hidden complexities and ambitions to shine on the world stage.

Zesty lemon and lime on the palate.

About Gut Oggau

Gut Oggau, nestled in Oggau, Austria, emerged from the vision of Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe in 2007. With Eduard's background in conventional winemaking and Stephanie's heritage rooted in the Michelin-starred restaurant Taubenkobel, they embarked on a journey to restore a 17th-century winery abandoned for two decades. The fortuitous neglect of the vines allowed for a seamless transition to biodynamic practices upon their revival, leading to full Demeter certification. Each wine's vibrant personality inspired the creation of a familial lineup, with names and labels representing different family members, thanks to artist Jung von Matt. From the lively children to the robust parents and wise grandparents, each bottle tells a tale of terroir and tradition.
