Domaine Mont de Marie

The Producer

About Domaine Mont De Marie

Domaine Mont de Marie was founded by Thierry Forestier, who left his city job in Montpellier in 2004 to follow a more grounded path among the vines. His small estate lies in the quiet village of Souvignargues in the Gard region, where old vines grow on stony, sandy soils surrounded by garrigue and forest.

Thierry’s philosophy is simple: let the vineyard speak. He farms organically, harvests by hand, and works with minimal intervention in the cellar. Over time, his style has evolved from structured, oaky wines to lighter, more expressive bottlings inspired by his friendship with natural wine pioneers such as Éric Pfifferling of Domaine L’Anglore.

About the Region

Gard, France

The Gard sits between the Rhône Valley and the Mediterranean coast, a sun-soaked area in southern France known for its diverse landscapes, from stony river plains to limestone hills and garrigue scrubland filled with wild herbs. The mix of sunshine, dry winds, and varied soils creates ideal conditions for organic and low-intervention viticulture.

Many small growers here work naturally, making wines that reflect the region’s rugged beauty and honest charm. The area’s flexible wine designation, IGP Gard, encourages experimentation and freedom in winemaking, which is why it’s home to some of France’s most exciting natural wine producers.
