Producer Profile

Greenstone Vineyards

Established in 2003 by industry leaders David Gleave MW, Alberto Antonini, and viticulturist Mark Walpole, Greenstone Vineyards found its niche in the renowned Heathcote region of Victoria. Recognizing the site's potential for Shiraz and Sangiovese, the founders planted vines on ancient Cambrian soils, unique to the region and dating back over 550 million years. The vineyard's name pays homage to these soils, rich in 'Greenstone,' a copper-infused basalt integral to the terroir. Under new ownership by the Melbourne Jiang family, Greenstone expanded to the Yarra Valley, acquiring Sticks Winery & vineyards in Yarra Glen in 2015. This move broadened their repertoire while maintaining a commitment to sourcing the best locations for each varietal.

Where The Wines Come From

Yarra Valley

In the serene landscapes of the Yarra Valley, natural winemaking is a testament to the region's commitment to sustainability and innovation. Nestled in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, just outside Melbourne, Australia, the Yarra Valley is renowned for its cool-climate vineyards and pristine natural beauty. Here, amidst rolling hills and ancient soils, winemakers embrace organic and biodynamic farming practices, nurturing vines with care and respect for the land. Indigenous grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Shiraz thrive in the region's diverse terroir, producing grapes of exceptional quality and character. In the cellar, minimal intervention is key, with spontaneous fermentations and aging in neutral vessels allowing the true expression of the grapes and terroir to shine through. The resulting natural wines from the Yarra Valley are a reflection of the region's unique terroir, with their vibrant fruit flavors, elegant textures, and a sense of place that captures the essence of this idyllic corner of Australia.
