A Word From Our Founder

Hi friends,

May in the Orange Club brings a lineup with texture, brightness, and plenty of personality. This month’s selection explores the many ways skin-contact wines can feel expressive, from fresh and lifted to savory, structured, and quietly wild.

The wines offer a range of textures and moods. Some feel bright and aromatic, with a lively freshness that keeps them easy to enjoy, while others bring more grip, depth, and earthy detail. Together, they create a selection that feels dynamic, layered, and full of movement.

These are wines that invite a little curiosity. They can be opened slightly chilled, shared before dinner, or poured alongside food where their texture and savory edges can really shine. As they warm and open in the glass, they may reveal new layers, making each bottle feel a little different from the first pour to the last.

As always, the focus is on wines made with care, from producers who value thoughtful farming, honest expression, and a lighter touch in the cellar. The result is a group of orange wines that feels alive, expressive, and closely connected to place.

Thank you for being part of the club and for continuing to explore these wines with us.

Here’s to a May filled with textured pours, curious glasses, and wines that keep unfolding.

Cheers,
Holly

Club Pick 1

A zesty orange wine made from Marina, Muscat, and Xarel·lo, with each variety vinified separately in stainless steel. Marina and Muscat spend 30 days on skins before pressing, then the wine ages for 6 months in stainless steel. Unfiltered and made with no added sulfur, it’s vibrant and aromatic, with stone fruit, pear, jasmine, spice, and a lightly grippy finish.

Raïmones represents the vibrant culmination of three esteemed wine families' legacies in Catalunia, heralding a new era of winemaking with a focus on natural practices and the revitalization of forgotten varietals. Embodying a commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability, Raïmones emerges as a beacon of innovation within the region's wine landscape. At the heart of their mission lies the preservation and promotion of "the Marina," an ancient and enigmatic grape variety whose potential has long been overshadowed by more mainstream cultivars. With a blend of reverence for tradition and a bold vision for the future, Raïmones harnesses the collective expertise and passion of its founders to breathe new life into Catalonia's winemaking heritage.

A textured skin-contact white from old bush vines in the Serra de São Mamede. The grapes are picked by hand, crushed by foot in a traditional stone lagar, fermented with native yeasts, and aged for 12 months in old oak. Dry and aromatic, with citrus peel, smoky depth, roasted almond, soft tannic grip, and a long spicy finish.

Region: Bairrada, Portugal

The Duckman wines epitomize the essence of Bairrada's indigenous grape varieties and its distinctive maritime influence. Deliberately eschewing any indication of the region on their labels, Maria Pato, daughter of Luis Pato, spearheaded this project to showcase the region's terroir and varietal authenticity with minimal cellar intervention. Fueled by a deep love for Bairrada and its native grapes, Maria and Luis reject the notion of Bairrada wines being defined by imported varietals, affirming that true Bairrada wine must stem from indigenous grapes. Working primarily with two vineyards, Amoreira da Gândara with sandy soils and Óis do Bairro with chalky-clay soils, they cultivate an array of red and white varietals, including Baga, Bical, Cercial.

Club Pick 4

A traditional Alentejo skin-contact white made from old-vine Portuguese varieties and aged in clay talha. Several months on the skins give the wine added texture, gentle grip, and a savory edge, while the fruit stays fresh and citrus-driven. Bright acidity, floral notes, and a mineral feel keep it lively and balanced.

XXVI Talhas isn’t just a winery—it’s a tribute to tradition, a love letter to the past, and a celebration of community. Nestled in the heart of Vila Alva, a small village in Alentejo, Portugal, this project was born from a deep respect for the ancient Roman winemaking technique of talha—fermenting wine in large clay amphorae.

For generations, families in Vila Alva have gathered around these earthen vessels, crafting wines that speak of time, soil, and heritage. A group of friends, who grew up watching their elders carefully tend to the talhas, decided that this beautiful tradition shouldn’t fade into history. They restored the Adega do Mestre Daniel, where 26 original talhas still stand, and breathed new life into the ancient craft.
