About the Winemaker

Monte Bernardi

Monte Bernardi, located in Chianti Classico's esteemed Panzano subzone, is renowned for producing elegant, mineral-driven wines. The estate's 53 hectares include 15 hectares of vineyards, with vines over 40 years old, situated on south-facing slopes at 350 meters above sea level. The terroir features a blend of shale (Galestro), sandstone (Pietraforte), and limestone (Alberese), with the Sa'etta cuvĂŠe sourced exclusively from Pietraforte soils. Founded in 1085, Monte Bernardi released its first vintage in 1992. Since acquiring the estate in 2003, the Schmelzer family has focused on biodynamic farming and low-intervention winemaking. Winemaker Michael Schmelzer's approach emphasizes balance, with vibrant acidity and earthy complexity, even in warmer vintages. Monte Bernardi produces Sangio
