Bodegas y Vinedos Garay

Mario Garay's organic vineyards are easy to spot amongst those of his neighbors. His wines represent the salty ocean influence of his calcareous soils. We only caught the tail end of the 2014 vintage so there’s not much wine to go round, but enough to preview what’s in store for the years to come. The wines flirt with an oxidative sherry style given the similarities in region and variety. Bleu spends 6 months in French oak, Red 6 months in American, and Negro Roto 1 year under flor. All wines unfortified, unfined, and unfiltered. We couldn’t be more excited to import these wines representing a region so close to us. - Selections de la Vina

About the Winemaker

Bodegas y Vinedos Garay

Ana and Mario's journey into winemaking began unexpectedly in Huelva, where their shared roots intertwined with their passion for wine. Mario, originally from the Bierzo region, had long harbored a desire to produce wine but lacked the means until fate intervened with a fortuitous game show win of €100k. With this windfall, he acquired three of La Palma del Condado's oldest vineyards, nestled in the heart of the Condado de Huelva DO. Embracing organic practices, Mario's vineyards stand out among his neighbors, their calcareous soils imparting a distinct salty ocean influence to his wines. Though the 2014 vintage was brief, it offered a glimpse into the promising future of Bodegas Garay's creations. Mario's wines, including Bleu, Red, and Negro Roto.
