About Sanctum

Sanctum Winemaker

Rooted in a legacy dating back to the 12th century, the Podkubovšek family continues the tradition of French Carthusian monks. With Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines gracing the slopes of northeast Slovenia, Vlado and his son Marko honor the region's heritage. Their wines are a testament to tradition, allowing the vines and microclimate to tell their story. Hand-picked grapes from steep, marl-rich slopes undergo minimal intervention during vinification, preserving the region's unique character in every bottle.

With 7.5 hectares of sloping shiste hills, Regis cultivates a diverse range of grape varieties. His inspiration for natural winemaking came from a revelatory bottle of Pierre Overnoy from Arbois in the Jura. Formerly a sommelier at esteemed wine establishments, Regis now ferments with native yeasts, adding minimal sulfur only at bottling to produce approximately 22,000 bottles annually.
