About Sebestyen Ivan Volgyi

The journey to Sebestyén Pince is an adventure in itself, navigating steep and narrow paths reminiscent of ATV trails in the United States. Yet, those who brave the ascent are welcomed into a humble garage-turned-winery by Csaba Sebestyén, a mechanic turned winemaker whose passion for wine was ignited unexpectedly in 1998. While enjoying his father's homemade wine during a fishing expedition, Csaba's encounter with a French sommelier transformed his perspective, leading him to embark on his winemaking journey that autumn. Fast forward nearly two decades, and Csaba's wines have garnered acclaim not only in the Szekszárd region but across Hungary. With his sister Csilla, a sommelier with her own wine passion.

About the Region

Szekszárd,

Nestled in the heart of Hungary, Szekszárd is a historic wine region that has embraced the principles of natural winemaking with a fervent dedication to tradition and innovation. Located along the gentle slopes of the Danube River, Szekszárd's vineyards benefit from a continental climate and diverse soils, including loess, clay, and limestone. Indigenous grape varieties such as Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch) and Kadarka thrive in this terroir, producing grapes of exceptional quality and character. Winemakers in Szekszárd are increasingly turning to organic and biodynamic farming methods, prioritizing sustainability and respect for the land. In the cellar, minimal intervention is the guiding principle, with spontaneous fermentations and aging in neutral vessels allowing the true expression of the grapes and terroir to shine through. The resulting natural wines from Szekszárd are a testament to the region's rich winemaking heritage, with their vibrant fruit flavors, elegant textures, and a sense of place that captures the spirit of Hungary's winemaking tradition.
