The Producer

About Kunoh Wines

Most natural winemakers will tell you they make wines that they themselves like to drink; Yuki-san, revealing the former rigorous sommelier still residing inside him, makes wines that he’d like to pair. “Wine has a long history of walking hand in hand with great food cultures of the world, traditionally with the Western ones that are very rich in butter, oil, and meat. But my culture is different. When I was working as a somm in Kyoto fine dining restaurants, I’d sometimes have difficulty finding the perfect wine for pairing
so I ended up trying to make them as I’d like them to match,” he says about the philosophy behind his cute flower-dotted labels, which are created by his friend, a Japanese artist named Sacco. - Jenny & Francois

About the Region

Tasman, New Zealand

Tasmania, an island state of Australia, is gaining recognition for its natural winemaking practices and cool-climate wines. Situated south of the Australian mainland, Tasmania benefits from a maritime climate, with mild summers and cool, wet winters, making it ideal for viticulture. Natural winemakers in Tasmania prioritize organic and biodynamic farming methods, eschewing chemical additives and pesticides in favor of sustainable vineyard practices. They cultivate a variety of grape varieties, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling, with minimal intervention to produce wines that reflect the region's unique terroir and the purity of the fruit. Tasmania's natural wines are known for their elegance, complexity, and balance, with Pinot Noir offering delicate red fruit flavors, Chardonnay providing crisp acidity and minerality, and Riesling showcasing vibrant citrus and floral aromatics. As the demand for authentic and terroir-driven wines continues to grow, Tasmania remains at the forefront of the natural wine movement, offering a taste of Australia's winemaking heritage and commitment to sustainability with every bottle.
