About Ktima Ligas

Situated in the heart of Macedonia in Northern Greece, Pella's narrative is deeply intertwined with the essence of wine. Ancient mosaics vividly depict a land of fertility, where the god of wine, adorned with vine leaves, reigns supreme. In the 19th century, when the Ottoman governor prohibited water usage for constructing the Church of the Virgin Mary, locals ingeniously mixed their mortar with wine. During the 20th century, the French army, traversing along the Galikos River, bore witness to the exceptional quality of local wines near their encampment. Despite the challenges posed by phylloxera outbreaks and the draining of a nearby lake in the 1900s, the region's centuries-old wisdom and passion for viticulture ensured its resilience.
