A legendary white cuvée made in tiny quantities from 60+-year-old Gruner Veltliner vines grown on limestone and slate. Crafted biodynamically, this wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation on skins, two years of aging in old oak barrels, and is bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no added SO2. With incredible structure and aging potential, Mechthild is the wise and resolute matriarch of Gut Oggau—strong, steadfast, and deeply memorable.

About Gut Oggau

Gut Oggau, nestled in Oggau, Austria, emerged from the vision of Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe in 2007. With Eduard's background in conventional winemaking and Stephanie's heritage rooted in the Michelin-starred restaurant Taubenkobel, they embarked on a journey to restore a 17th-century winery abandoned for two decades. The fortuitous neglect of the vines allowed for a seamless transition to biodynamic practices upon their revival, leading to full Demeter certification. Each wine's vibrant personality inspired the creation of a familial lineup, with names and labels representing different family members, thanks to artist Jung von Matt. From the lively children to the robust parents and wise grandparents, each bottle tells a tale of terroir and tradition.
