About Chateau Le Payral

Since 1992, Thierry and Isabelle Daulhiac have overseen a nineteenth-century manor house and fifteen hillside hectares of vineyards, passed down through two previous generations. Situated between the Montbazillac and Sainte-Foy appellations in Razac de Saussignac, their estate overlooks the Dordogne River, about two kilometers to the north. Upon assuming ownership, they found traditional farming methods prevalent but gradually transitioned to organic, nearing biodynamic, practices in the vineyards. Eight hectares are devoted to white grapes (Sémillon, Muscadelle, and Sauvignon Blanc), while seven are dedicated to red (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon). The adoption of organic methods has notably improved the outcomes of their pebbled.

About the Region

Bergerac, France

Bergerac, located in the southwest of France, is known for its picturesque landscapes, historic towns, and diverse wines. In recent years, the region has also embraced natural winemaking practices. With its limestone soils, maritime climate, and gentle slopes, Bergerac provides an ideal environment for sustainable viticulture. Natural winemakers in the region prioritize organic and biodynamic farming methods, cultivating traditional grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Semillon with minimal intervention. By eschewing chemical additives and focusing on natural fermentation, they produce wines that reflect the terroir's unique characteristics. Bergerac's natural wines are known for their purity, freshness, and expression of fruit flavors, with reds offering rich, ripe berry notes and whites showcasing crisp acidity and floral aromatics. As the demand for authentic and terroir-driven wines continues to grow, Bergerac remains a vibrant and innovative player in the world of natural winemaking, offering a taste of its rich heritage and countryside charm with each bottle.
