The Producer

About Cantine Barbera

From vineyards blessed with mild winters, warm dry summers, and significant diurnal temperature shifts, the grapes ripen to sweetness, carrying aromas of sunshine and the gentle Mediterranean breeze. Marilena tends to three distinct areas: "vigne in costa," where Inzolia and Nero d'Avola thrive in deep, calcareous soils rich in limestone; "vine al pozzo," nestled in Belicello's heart, home to international varietals alongside Perricone and Nerello Mascalese, growing in fertile, alluvial soils formed by clay banks; and "la vota," where Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in yellowish alluvial sands with a clay-silty fraction.

About the Region

Sicily, Italy

Sicily is the ultimate wine playground, an island paradise where fiery Mount Etna meets cool ocean breezes. Think sunshine-soaked grapes ripening in volcanic soil, bold reds like Nero d'Avola (think juicy black cherry) and fragrant whites like Grillo (hello, citrus!). Beyond the classics, there's a treasure trove of unique native grapes. It's a place where history swirls in your glass, from ancient Greek techniques to delicious sun-dried Marsala. A beach bum's haven, and a wine lover's playground, all rolled into one!
