Scythian Wine Co., spearheaded by former sommelier turned vigneron Raj Parr, is a fresh endeavor spotlighting the almost forgotten viticultural legacy of Los Angeles. Prior to Prohibition, the city stood as the focal point of California's wine industry, renowned for producing exceptional wines from grape varieties such as Palomino, Mission, Garnacha Tintorera, and Zinfandel, all nurtured in sandy soils. Despite the challenges, a handful of these original, dry-farmed vineyards persist, largely thanks to the Galleano family's diligent stewardship. Collaborating with a select group, Raj Parr embarked on the journey of exploring and reviving some of the most intriguing parcels of these historic vines in 2019.
