Producer Profile

Colleformica

In our exploration of the authentic wines of Lazio, we are delighted to introduce you to the wines of Colleformica and the father-son winemaking team of Sergio and Paulo Bombetti.

Located approximately 40km southeast of Rome, just beyond the Castelli Romani from Frascati, the family has cultivated a small plot of land for over a century. With just 3 hectares in total, only 2 hectares are dedicated to vineyards, while the rest comprises olive groves, fruit trees, and a vegetable garden for family use.

The vineyards boast vines that are over forty years old, planted with traditional varieties of the region including Sangiovese, Malvasia, and Trebbiano. The Bombettis practice natural farming methods, with grapes always hand-harvested.

Where The Wines Come From

Lazio

In the picturesque region of Lazio, nestled between the Apennine Mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea, a growing number of winemakers are embracing natural winemaking practices, offering a unique take on the traditional wines of this historic area. With its rolling hills, volcanic soils, and diverse microclimates, Lazio provides an ideal environment for sustainable viticulture. Natural winemakers in Lazio focus on organic and biodynamic farming methods, cultivating native grape varieties such as Malvasia, Trebbiano, and Cesanese with minimal intervention. By eschewing chemical pesticides and additives, they allow the grapes to express their true terroir, resulting in wines that are vibrant, expressive, and full of character. From crisp, mineral-driven whites to elegant, earthy reds, Lazio's natural wines capture the essence of the region's rich cultural heritage and offer a taste of the unique landscapes that define this beautiful corner of Italy.
