JH Meyer

“Stompie and his wife Anri recently purchased a small farm atop the Piketberg mountain in the northwestern reaches of the Swartland, where they are establishing their family legacy, including their latest addition in early March 2020 with the arrival of their daughter Isabelle. The three Meyers along with a harem of ridgebacks called their little homestead Platteklip Vineyard. It is situated just 18 miles from the Atlantic Ocean at between 2,000-2,600 feet above sea level in a small valley. He and Anri are working to establish a new W.O. called Piketberg, or Piket-bo-berg, for the lands around their vineyard because it truly is nothing like the Swartland. The proximity to the sea and altitude makes for climate that is similar to the cool enclave of Elgin and the soils are the sandstone found further south in Constantia.” — Vine Street

About the Winemaker

JH Meyer

"Stompie and his wife Anri recently acquired a small farm atop the Piketberg mountain in the northwestern part of the Swartland. They are building their family legacy there, which expanded in early March 2020 with the birth of their daughter, Isabelle. The three Meyers, along with a group of ridgebacks, call their homestead Platteklip Vineyard. Located just 18 miles from the Atlantic Ocean at an elevation between 2,000 and 2,600 feet, this vineyard sits in a unique valley. Stompie and Anri are working to establish a new Wine of Origin (W.O.) designation called Piketberg, or Piket-bo-berg, for the area around their vineyard. This region is distinct from the Swartland due to its proximity to the sea and high altitude, which creates a climate similar to the cool enclave of Elgin.
