About Philippe Tessier

Located in the heart of the AOC Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny, the family estate is 23 hectares and planted on the famous route Chateaux de la Loire. Winemaker and owner, Philippe Tessier, took over the estate in 1981 from his father, Roger, who began it in 1961. The domaine has been Agriculture Biologique certified organic since 1998. They make a point to practice and promote small-farm viticulture. They make two cuvées of Cheverny (Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay) and 3 cuvées of Cour-Cheverny (100% Romorantin), as well as interesting reds. The microclimate is influenced by the massive forests of Cheverny, Chambord and Sologne. The region's soil is comprised of sand, clay, limestone, as well as ancient marine sediment, and the vines can be up to 90 years old. David Schildknect commented about the 2009 Cheverny rouge Point du Jour in the #190 Wine Advocate, "There could be far worse introductions to Cheverny rouge – to say nothing of Pinot Noir – than this excellent value."
