Producer Profile

Pikasi

"Pikasi is a negociant project of Slovenian winemaker and professional ballroom dancer, Matic Rodica. Together with Vipava Valley grower, Petr Stegovec, Matic created the Pikasi lineup of naturally fermented indigenous variety wines – Pinela, Zelen, Rebula, Barbera and Barbera Rose. The labels are inspired by dancing, and the silhouettes were drawn off of Matic’s own dance photos. All of Pikasi wines are made in a fresh and approachable style and offer a pure and balanced expression of each grape varietal.

Saramento (“vine shoot” in Istrian dialect) comes from the vineyards located near Koper in Istria, Slovenia. Known for its local malvasia and refosk, this region also produces amazing, pure and balanced cabernets and merlots. -Vinum"

Where The Wines Come From

Vipava

Vipava Valley, nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Slovenia, is a hidden gem for natural winemaking. This idyllic region benefits from a unique microclimate, with warm Mediterranean influences from the Adriatic Sea and cool Alpine breezes from the nearby mountains. Indigenous grape varieties such as Zelen, Pinela, and Rebula thrive in Vipava's diverse terroir, ranging from limestone-rich soils to gravelly riverbeds. Winemakers here prioritize sustainable viticulture, practicing organic and biodynamic farming methods to cultivate grapes with a true expression of the land. In the cellar, minimal intervention is key, with spontaneous fermentations and aging in neutral vessels allowing the grapes' natural character to shine through. The resulting natural wines from Vipava are a testament to the region's pristine beauty and winemaking tradition, with their vibrant flavors, elegant textures, and a sense of place that captures the essence of Slovenia's charming countryside.
