October 2022 | 12 Bottle Club
Welcome to the September 12 Bottle Club from MYSA Natural Wine!
A note from our founder:
Is there a more perfect season to drink orange wine?! We don't think so! This month we have fun seasonal bottles for. We've been waiting to work with Subject to Change for awhile and this Sauv Blanc and Syrah from them are killer! We're getting all the Halloween vibes from Anarchy and Renegado, and fall vibes from our Semillon Conejo (squirrel!). Balancing out the rest we have medium bodied reds for all the fall fare you want to eat as well as a couple of lighter whites and a fall rosé to lighten the group and give you lots of great options!

About Folias de Baco

Tiago Sampaio is the innovative young winemaker of Folias de Baco, a project started in 2007 that one could say was spearheaded in his childhood piggybacking on his grandfather through the farms and vineyards, always curious and plucky, willing to experiment at every step of the way. Tiago is essentially bridging the traditions of his homeland with learned modern aesthetics, creating field blends of both red, white and mixed from indigenous varietals planted some 80 years ago, while carefully attending to his new fixation of Pinot Noir vines that he makes both red and rosé. Tiago has set his sights higher, pushing the boundaries of his curiosity and what some might not expect out of such a traditional region. - Savio Soares Selections

About Frug

Frug is a new exciting addition to Jenny & Francois’ labels – wines that come from an exclusive coop between us and carefully selected winemakers. It’s our great joy to bring you wines that are kind to both nature and your budget, and in the case of these easy-drinking Austrians, this friendly concept is emphasized even more by the packaging – a plump 1-liter bottle! That extra quarter of a liter comes in handy (you’ll see) and follows the Central-European tradition of bottling everyday drinking wines in this volume. “Making the shift happen over many years was particularly important to us since we wanted to give our vines time to adapt and maintain the quality and fruitiness of our wines,” as Josef explains why the switch took some time. The winery focuses on typical Austrian grapes – Gruner Veltliner, a traditional variety that has become almost synonymous with Austrian white wine, present in the country since some time around 1550 and nowadays its most widely planted grape; and Zweigelt for the rosé and red, a (relatively) new but similarly Austria-typical cross of St. Laurent and Blaufrankisch, bred by a local viticulturalist of the same name in 1922. - Jenny & Francois

About Vina Laurent

We seek to do what we like, express our passion, make wines with soul, with their own identity, we do not seek to be pretentious in it, it is simply to seek and interpret what nature gives us. That is why our wines are different each year , each year the imprint that nature wanted to leave us is impregnated and therefore, as a result, what matters most to us is sharing our wines. -Laurent Wines

About Simian

In 2011, Chateau Simian’s first certified biodynamic vintages were born from vines newly managed by Florian, who finished his studies in the meantime. “Ever since, we’ve seen how an agricultural philosophy that respects the great laws of nature results in grapes of exceptional quality: thick skins rich in color and aromas, silky tannins, juicy and sweet pulp with very stable acidity,” Florian nods at the quality of material that he sends to Pierre Chaupin, his cellarmaster who arrived at the property around the same time as he did. But it’s not only about making some smooth, textured wines (however delicious they are); this approach also helps to vivify and regenerate the soil as a whole, and benefits not only the vines but all the plants that share their habitat, including the so-called “weeds”. “We basically learned that the only way to “command” nature is to obey, not oppose her,” Florian shrugs, leaving us with a laconically exact sum-up of the biodynamic philosophy – and his family’s history as well. -Jenny & François

These are much lighter, fresher examples of Chilean viticulture than we are used to tasting, but ones that still express a clear sense of place. That’s a nice balance.
