About Sanctum

Sanctum Winemaker

Rooted in a legacy dating back to the 12th century, the Podkubovšek family continues the tradition of French Carthusian monks. With Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines gracing the slopes of northeast Slovenia, Vlado and his son Marko honor the region's heritage. Their wines are a testament to tradition, allowing the vines and microclimate to tell their story. Hand-picked grapes from steep, marl-rich slopes undergo minimal intervention during vinification, preserving the region's unique character in every bottle.

Levente Major, the charismatic winemaker and headmaster of an elementary school in Abasár, is not your typical producer. He's the face of the Mátra wine region's revival, often seen skateboarding in an AC/DC t-shirt. His wines, like him, are a blend of brilliance and fun. From unexpected school block parties to thought-provoking wines, Levente brings joy and memorable moments to every occasion. His wines, pure and lively, reflect his gregarious and kindhearted personality, always with a smile.

Domaine Ribiera Winemaker

 Christine and Regis Pichon, a passionate winemaking couple, embarked on their journey in the picturesque Languedoc region. With 7.5 hectares of sloping shiste hills, Regis cultivates a diverse range of grape varieties. His inspiration for natural winemaking came from a revelatory bottle of Pierre Overnoy from Arbois in the Jura. Formerly a sommelier at esteemed wine establishments, Regis now ferments with native yeasts, adding minimal sulfur only at bottling to produce approximately 22,000 bottles annually. Their dream is to co-own a larger winery in the future, driven by their dedication to crafting clean, expressive, and drinkable natural wines.

Georg Schmelzer, a fourth-generation winemaker in Austria's Gols region, near Lake Neusiedl, embodies a biodynamic winemaking philosophy. Following Demeter guidelines, he employs a range of biodynamic preparations to nurture the soil and promote vine health. Techniques like horn manure, ground crystal, and herbal infusions bolster soil vitality and vine metabolism. With hand-harvested grapes and aging in neutral oak, Georg's minimal-intervention approach allows the grapes to shine, making Weingut Schmelzer truly exceptional.
