This block stays a little cooler because of its position on the hill, a little lower and westward. I think the Zin by itself would be a fruit bomb and we’ve seen the Primitivo by itself which can be very zippy. The blend works well. These two grapes are clones of the same progenitor with the Primitivo staying about 10 days ahead of the Zinfandel with regards to ripeness. I pick at the same time because it solves the problem I have with each. It reduces acids in the Primitivo and stops sugar build up in the Zinfandel.
