Introducing the MYSA Natural Wine Club

Posted by Niclas Jansson on

We love natural wines. They’re fun, they’re different, they’re made by producers who share the same values as we do. If you follow us on Instagram, you probably saw us in Hungary, Austria, and Spain not long ago. There’s a limitless amounts of great wines out there, from Rome to Romania, and we’re ready to start sharing them with our followers. That’s why we’re thrilled to be launching a natural wine club to help us get them from our producers to your doorstep!
This club has been a few years in the making. It’s tricky to find small production wines on a regular scale in retail and restaurant. These buyers want consistency in their wines and when we’re only finding 300-500 bottles, we can’t guarantee that. Additionally, when you take the traditional retail route the story of the producer and wine has to go through four steps to get to you.
With each step, we get further and further away from the consumer who will actually be drinking the wines, and we lose the ability to share that story with you. As active bloggers and social media users, our goal is to have a direct connection with our natural wine drinkers. The club allows us to remove the layers and bring in a bottle with limited availability by sending it directly to your door.

Here’s what our natural wine club is all about:

Natural wines

Spontaneous fermentation, biodynamic, organic, and hand-picked, are just a few of the qualities we’re looking for when we’re meeting producers and adding wines to the portfolio. Everywhere we go, we find natural wine bars, stores, restaurants, producers, and communities that welcome us and share their wines (check out our posts on where to find natural wine).

Small production

Most producers we meet are making between 500-1,000 bottles of any given wine, and we can secure around 300 after they serve their local market. Incredible wines are coming from these producers you’ve probably never heard of, and they’ll rarely get nationwide distribution in a traditional retail model. They’re too small for consistent shipments to more than maybe one city and tough to even discover in the first place!

Interesting, fun, and funky wines

We love wine because of what they tell us about a culture, a region, and a producer. You’ll probably see grapes you’ve never heard of (ever tried Blauer Portuguieser) or a hyper-local certification like the Pannobile designation for a select group of vintners in Gols, Austria.

Temperature controlled - always

There’s a lot of ways to move wine, but if you’re dealing with natural wines (and really if you care deeply about the wine quality generally) using temperature-controlled shipping from pickup at the vineyard, to the shipping container, to the trucks taking it to your home and any warehouse in between is absolutely imperative. It’s a precaution that makes a big difference in preserving the qualities the winemaker intended the wine to have.

We’re going to be doing things a little differently.

Our prices are going to be lower than you would expect.

We’re bring wines directly from the vineyard to your doorstep. A bottle that costs 7 euro for trade is typically around $28 retail. For you, it will be $21, shipped.

You don’t get to pick what we send you.

That’s right. No quizzes, no “if you like this, you might like this”, no “just reds please”. One of our favorite things, when we go out to eat in a new place, is taking the recommendations of the staff and running with it. After all, they’ve tried the food, drank the wines, and served hundreds of people. If you’re not interested in trying new things, want consistency in your shipments, or are looking for choice, this might not be the club for you. We might stick an orange wine, an earthy white aged in an amphora, or a pet-nat in your shipments. What’s wine without discovering new things, anyway?

You won't be able to go to the store and buy these.

It’s hard, if not impossible, to find these wines in-store. Like we said above - they’re often too small to establish a consistent retail presence, and natural wines are just hard to find in general if you’re not in a major city like New York, D.C., or San Francisco. If you like the wines, we'll have them for retail purchase as well online, but move fast! We’re working with very small allocations, and often when it’s gone, it’s gone!

How It Works

We're in full swing now! Choose between three, six or twelve bottle shipment will cost from $84-$239 shipped. Every new subscriber will start with our Volume 1 set of wines then move through V2, V3, etc. with a mix of producers, styles, countries, and colors. Let the bottle sit for a few days (natural wines are finicky and need time to settle!), likely chill (we'll send instructions on serving temps) then drink and enjoy! If there are any bottles you love, check out our natural wine store! You can buy them by the bottle there with $9.95 shipping.

This club has been a few years in the making, and we can’t wait to get started. We hope that you join us, let us know what you think, and share the story and experience of these wines with us.

We're offering a 20% discount on the subscription
